It was an icy cold morning in the UK. Two blue stripes appeared, can it really be positive. Test number three and another two blue stripes. A faulty pack, I think not.
Congratulations you are pregnant!
I had a wonderful pregnancy. I only gained 12 kg. I had no cravings or morning sickness. During my last trimester I suffered with a little heart burn, but other than that I enjoyed every moment. I thought I looked beautiful and so did my dad.
Eight months later my baby boy was born. Joshua arrived on the 21 of July 2001 and he was perfect. He had rosy cheeks, the bluest eyes and little curls. He weighed a whopping 3.5kg and he was mine!
He arrived on his due date. It was around 1 am in the morning when I first experienced the pain in my abdomen, it was excruciating. My mom knew I was in labour and I was rushed off to the maternity ward in Toti. Four and a half hours later my little bundle made his appearance. I had natural birth, with no epidural – only a shot of Pethadene .
Joshua is now 8 years old and I still refer to him as my baby boy. He is a loving child that is not shy to show his affection, he still allows me to kiss him in front of his friends. Come to think of it, I still call him snoopy in front of his friends. He is my little angel.
Joshua has had a lot to endure during his little life. He has experienced his parents’ divorce, his parents remarrying, the birth of his step sister and brother and the death of his grandpa. Spite all of these experiences he remains a secure, independent and happy child. By nature he is very sensitive and always eager to please others.
I often feel very guilty because of what he has had to go through in such a short space of time, but I know he is okay.
He is a loving brother and showers his little sister Abigail with love. He enjoys reading to her and playing with her. He often shares his toys but obviously he has his favourites, and they are a no go.
Joshua is a great helper around the house, he has his chores but I have to admit he does not always finish them and if he does they are mostly done with half a heart.
He loves to play, to colour to watch tv.
He has a wild imagination and can keep himself occupied for quite a length of time.
Often Barend and I will receive a little gift (painted stones) or a colouring picture from him. He is an amazing child. We are so blessed to have such a beautiful perfect little boy.
My perfect gift from up above!

You have done an excellent job raising Josh on your own, and he is a very special little boy who is loved so much by everyone.

Thanks, although I only raised him on my own for the first four years – thereafter his “daddy’ otherwise known as “step daddy” has helped.
