Today my mom and I took Abigail to Plant Land in the West Rand. A lovely little nursery with a tea garden and play area for the kids.
Whilst ordering my food I noticed a small group of children celebrating a birthday party. There were balloons, sweeties, cakes, wheelchairs and more wheelchairs. The wheelchairs were so small, specially designed for young children.
I noticed a teacher picking up a little boy from his wheelchair and taking him to the sand pit to play. He could not walk but managed to drag himself towards the jungle gym. His teacher picked him up and placed him on the jungle gym so he could play. She was so gentle with him and so patient. The love she had for that little boy oozed out of her (if that makes any sense). I was very touched.
There were quite a few little ones (aged 4 – 6) in leg braces or just simply trying to get by with their “imperfections”. I had to fight back the tears as I watched these little one’s try and get about the play area.
My mom sat in the sandpit with Abigail for awhile and one of the little girls from the party joined her. She had special braces for her little legs and walked with such difficulty, yet somehow made it look so easy. She sat on the edge of the sandpit talking away to my mom and keeping little Abigail busy.
When my mom returned I hugged Abigail and gave her such a big kiss and “thanked” the Lord for my “perfect” little girl.
I do believe that God only gives us what we can handle. I admired the strength, patience, love and affection shown to these “special needs” children by their teachers. I think you have to be a “darling angel” to work with these special kiddies, you must be created just for them.
To my friends and those that I don’t know who have “special needs” children, I admire you. I don’t think the rest of us realize how difficult it must be to deal with the situation everyday.
God certainly picked “the best earthly mommies and daddies” for these dear and special little ones.

But you are also special… A special mom to your little ones. Remember that!
