December is my favourite month of the year, except for the fact that my nanny takes three weeks leave.
This year she arranged for her best friend to help us out. She has a fab personality, cleans well but she is definitely not good with children. I’m wondering how she actually raised her own two children.
Yesterday, was her first day on the job!
I asked her to look after Abigail while I quickly took a bath. She put Abi on her back and went about her work. I had no sooner climbed into the bath when I heard an awful scream / cry. I raced to the kids play room and found Abigail lying on the tiles with her head down. The nanny had put her on the bed as she had fallen asleep on her back. There were no pillows around her – nothing. She had rolled over in her sleep and fallen off the bed. I was livid, especially as I had told her to bring her to my room if she fell asleep.
Fortunately Abigail was only bruised, on her forehead and nose. She sobbed non stop. My heart ached for her. I put her in the bath with me and we played for about half an hour. The water and duckies seemed to calm her down.
I spoke to the nanny after everything had calmed down, explaining that the children may never be left alone.
I’ve now decided that she will only do the housework and not assist me with the children.
I’m glad I’ve made that choice, not only because of the safety issue but because it allows me to spend quality time with them.
I’ve worked out a nice routine for all of us. We eat together, play together and nap together. How perfect !!!! We all work around Logan’s schedule.
I do still miss my nanny because she is fabulous. She is part of our family and I can’t wait for her to return in the new year.
